January went by with only one event, regrettably, and I don’t have an excuse. I’m going to be out of the country for some of February, so I’m going to plan the next three right now, just to be safe.

The first Sunday of February
Feb. 3rd, 1 pm
Lunch at Taj Palace, Itaewon

Cost: around 13,000

This place has hosted us so graciously in the past. They have enough room for a huge turn-out, and even though not all of their buffet is vegetarian, they have brought extra vegetarian and vegan dishes, even free lassis to the table.

If you’re starting at the subway station, take Exit #3 and walk straight out until you get to the first intersection. You’ll pass a Starbucks and a KB Bank. Turn right, and the Taj Palace is on your right, on the 2nd floor.

The third Saturday of February
Feb. 16th, 5:00 pm
Potluck dinner at Lisa’s

Cost: Free! If you’re a good cook, make a dish to share. If you’re not so good at cooking, bring fresh fruit or beverages. Lisa’s place is very spacious and comfortable, and she’s got a crazy French Canadian werewolf-themed game to teach us too.

Directions to Lisa’s house:

Jangji Station (pink line (#8) exit 2)
walk straight.
On your left, there’s a footpath.. turn left onto the footpath
turn right at the street
keep walking until the first intersection
turn left there
walk all the way down until the end of the road
walk, walk, walk, don’t give up
go through the gate into AiCorea

once in AiCorea, walk straight and take the road that curves to the left
you’ll see a building called sarang (love)
top floor
door is on your right

The first Sunday of March
March 2nd, 1 pm
Lunch at SM Chinghai, Yangjae

Cost: 13,000 won
Elaborate, totally vegan buffet and they sell lots of vegetarian faux meats and some “Amy’s” products…

By bus: Go out exit 5 of Yangjae Station and bear right; you should come to a bus stop about 1 minute later. Take bus 4430 (Green) and get off at the second bus stop. You will see a Starbucks across the street. Cross the street and walk right, you will see the blue SM Ching Hai sign on your left.

By taxi: Take a taxi at exit 5 of Yangjae Station ask the driver to take you to Samhomulsan (삼호물산); the ride costs about 3,000 won. This will bring you to the bus stop described above, cross the street and go right.

Are newbies welcome? I’ve never been before (new to Korea) but I’m struggling with keeping veg in Seoul so would love to come.

Sure, “newbies” and even nonvegetarians interested in gradually becoming vegetarian have always been welcome to Seoul Vegetarian Club gatherings.

Also note that at the February 16 “potluck” dinner at Lisa’s voluntary donations will be accepted to help out the Animal Rescue group trying to meet an end of the month deadline to save a large number dogs.

This article gives good background on their current struggle:

Please post here (or on facebook) or email Amy if you can attend.

If possible, bring some vegetarian item (fruit, salad, drink, chips, side-dish …) or just show up and give some donation that we’ll turn over to a representative from the Animal Rescue group.

I’d like to attend the dinner on Feb. 16th. Because I tend to get lost easily, could I get a contact number to call if I have trouble getting there?

Thanks

I think that the “potluck vegetarian dinner party” at has been canceled because of unforeseen complications with the venue, and no good alternative could be found for Feb. 16.

Amy (currently in Canada – and not always with Internet access) said that it will be made up in the near future …

I don’t know if I need to RSVP, but I would like to join you all for lunch this coming Sunday.

You’re certainly welcome – just give your email address to Amy to get on the mailing list.
I will try to be at Yanjiae station exit 5 from 12:35 till 12:45 to help first-timers find the right bus – actually taxi might be better if there’s light rain (as forecast) My cell number – if anyone gets lost and doesn’t have Amy’s – is 011-9684-4950.
